English without grammar is like a school without a teacher. 1. Verbs

2. Nouns

A noun can be defined as a person, place  or thing. They often form the subject or object of a sentence.


The cat could not jump off the wall.

3. Adjectives

Adjectives are describing words that are usually used with nouns. It modifies a noun and usually comes before the noun or after verbs.


My grandmother knits incredibly well.

Jacob was a thin, young, Indian boy.

4. Adverbs

Adverbs are the words that  signify the meaning of a verb, an adjective or any other word or sentence. They usually answer questions such as how, where, when, and how much.


I will buy a car tomorrow.

The kids are playing outside.


5. Pronouns

Pronouns are small words that take the place of a noun and can be used instead of a noun. They can be: he, you, ours, themselves, some, each etc.


I don’t like him.

She is very friendly.

6. Prepositions

Words that are used to link nouns, pronouns, adverbs, adjectives, etc., are called prepositions. It expresses the relationship of a noun or a pronoun to another word.


Are you free on Thursday evening?

The dog jumped onto the table.
